A TWEET by President Trump accusing the Democrats of trying to ‘Steal the election’, has been slapped with a warning label as no evidence exists to substantiate his claim.
Shortly after Joe Biden spoke in Wilmington, Delaware, to state that he was confident of a win, Trump tweeted:
‘We are up BIG, but they are trying to STEAL the Election. We will never let them do it. Votes cannot be cast after the poles [sic] are closed!’
Twitter announced in September that it would label or remove posts that prematurely declare a victory in the US election, yet President Trump is expected to do exactly that in light of millions of postal votes and early votes still yet to be counted – votes that are predicted to heavily favour Democrat candidate Joe Biden.
Twitter has previously added warning labels to many of Trumps tweets, which included misinformation based on QAnon conspiracy theories.
Biden currently has 223 electoral college votes, while Trump has 174. In order to win, a candidate needs 270 votes to be elected president.
In recent weeks, President Trump has boasted that he has a large legal team ready to challenge the election result, and has refused to commit to a peaceful transition of power or acceptance of the result should it not go in his favour.
Of more concern, the President also stated that he will be making an announcement tonight, adding the words “a big win”.
