Donald Trump is to be officially charged with a crime after a grand jury today voted to have the former U.S. president indicted.
The indictment relates to the payment of ‘hush money’ to pornstar Stormy Daniels.
Trump made the payment to Daniels in 2016, handing her $160,000 in an attempt to hide the couple’s alleged affair from the voting public in the run-up to his presidential election campaign.
Trump has denied any wrongdoing.
The indictment does not disqualify him from running to be President again in 2024. Trump, a resident of Florida, will however become the first former U.S. president to be arrested. The formal arrest will now take place in New York City where he will be legally required to attend court. The former President, who lost to Joe Biden after a four-year reign that saw him heavily criticized for coveting right-wing conspiracy theorists that contributed to the death of a protestor, could even potentially have his fingerprints recorded and mugshot taken.
This is a breaking story. VoteWatch will update in due course.
