A TORY MP has been charged over an allegation that he groped a young teenager back in 2009.

MP Imran Ahmad Khan attended court this week to plead “not guilty” to the single count of alleged historic child abuse.

Mr Khan, who was elected in the 2019 General Election to represent Wakefield, Yorkshire, has had the whip removed and will not attend Parliament while the case against him continues to go through the justice system.

Staffordshire Police have been probing the claim for over a year but never made a formal arrest.

“May I make it clear from the outset that the allegation, which is from over 13 years ago, is denied, in the strongest terms.

“This matter is deeply distressing to me and I, of course, take it extremely seriously.

“To be accused of doing something, I did not do is shocking, destabilising and traumatic.

“I am innocent.

“Those like me who are falsely accused of such actions are in the difficult position of having to endure damaging and painful speculation, until the case is concluded.
